Day trip from Chamonix to Zermatt

One of our most popular destinations for a day trip from Chamonix is the wonderful car free town Zermatt In Switzerland.  The drive takes a little over 2 hours.

We recently went there with a lovely family from India who spent the entire day looking around before we drove them back in the evening.  At this time of year the colours are fantastic and there is normally a bit of snow on the higher summits, if not in the town itself.

Wonderful colours in Zermatt

While the clients were checking out what was on offer up in Zermatt, I went for a little hike up to the Longest suspension bridge IN THE WORLD.  This recently built bridge is a few hours hike above Tasch and is well worth the visit.

Known as the “Charles Kuonen” Hangebrucke (Hanging Bridge?) it is very well sign posted, but some people might find the sign posts a little “strange”.

Although the route up is well sign posted this doesn’t mean its an easy walk, in fact its actually quite steep.  According to my watch there were about 700m of vertical.  The bridge itself is located at an altitude of 2080m

Freaky sign post

The bridge itself is long, at 494m and takes a good few minutes to walk across.  I couldn’t help wonder why they didn’t add 6 more meters just to make it a nice half kilometre!

Does it move? yes, even the action of walking on it makes it move about slightly, i didn’t try jumping up and down.  Although its long its not very high off the ground only about 85m at the highest point.

In the evening I collected the clients from the train station because Zermatt is accessed only by train (its car free).  We were back in time for the clients to have a late meal in one of their favourite restaurants in Chamonix.

At Deluxe-Transfers we have a selection of luxury vehicles for all sorts of occasions.  We have the flexibility to provide any type of transport required.  Contact us for more information.
